this week we had a socratic seminar which is when we read a piece of a reading or a book and then we sit down a have a discussion about how we felt it portrayed and how we understood what it was trying to say. The reading was named Corn's conquest and it was about a man talking about the fact that corn practically runs our world since there are so many uses for corn and its one of the cheapest crops for corporations to buy. I felt our discussion was a good source of knowledge and I learned a lot of things From the discussion and I got to see other people's views of the matter and what questions they had. One thing I did well was participated and being respectful when someone was talking I also engaged in some of the conversations they were having. One thing I thought I could of done better was meeting my goal I had set myself I had only accomplished half of my goal which was a bummer to me because I know I could of reached it if I would of participated a little more. This week we went to a farmers market to observe and talk to the vendors and customers to implement some tips and tactics we received form them. we split our groups in half in my group there was 3 people on one team and 2 on my team Joshua and I. It would have been 3 in my group as well but one student had gone home and me and my partner had to find vendors and interview them. We had to get three interviews in total for vendors the rest of our group was finding customers to interview. one thing I think I did well was speaking to strangers because I do not really like speaking in public less to strangers. one thing I thought I could of done better was being faster at getting interviews because we got our three vendors but the rest of our group has gotten no customers so we had grouped up and asked some costumers but we only got 2 interviews overall I think it was a good experience for me because I got to get out of my comfort zone.
This week our class went to U.S.D to have a mun conference about countries we were assigned and how we could come together to solve a problem that affects every country and that problem is food security and we had to form groups and come up with resolutions and in the end we would all vote on which resolution we though was best and benefited our country the most and we also had to take into account our allies and enemies so we couldn't work together because it wasn't accurate and probably wouldn't happen in the real world. The country I was assigned was The Republic of Haiti which is a very poor country with lots of problems economically so I thought I couldn't really do anything to help out more then the other countries so I was not really speaking what I had in mind further more I do not like speaking in public so that was another reason I didn't speak. I think something that went well was I spoke more then just my opening speech I also spoke about how my county wants to be a self sustaining country but it cant because it does not have the necessary resources. One thing I thought I could improve on was helping out with the resolution because I felt only a certain amount of people were doing the work and the rest of us were just there. Overall it went ok I would of liked it to go better but it did not. This week we did another practice mun conference were 3 people were assigned a country to find out what benefits and things it could contribute to help find a solution to an agricultural problem. My group and I had a really poor country whos food source was scare but they had a lot of sunlight so they used it to their advantage by making solar ovens and the country empowers women. I thought I could have contributed more to help with the problem if I had done a little more research on it. I really liked it it was fun to see what even a small and poor country could do to help out in a big situation.
Final draft
This week we did a MUN zombie simulation where we became countries and talked about how we would solve a problem. The problem was there was a sickness that would turn people into zombies and we had to find a solution.to pass what our plan was we needed at least 6 out of ten countries to approve our plan. My partner and I were Switzerland and we were with the group that came up with the best plan of action. I felt I learned how to cooperate better and I also succeeded by cooperating with the team with the best plan and what we would do to help them with their plan. An area I could work on is staying on the general topic because I would talk about taking over countries instead of joining them. Over all this was a very fun week and I learned a lot. This week we made a chart that describes us and what we like doing and we also were tasked to create a five dollar lunch that is not processed and is healthy so my group and I decided to see what we could create. We chose to make avocado toast with a boiled egg thinly sliced and put on top of the avocado. I think my group and I succeed in our mission of making a well balanced meal for five dollars I really enjoyed the session we had. I learned to use money a lot more wisely and make an inexpensive meal. One thing I would change is probably not waist more money then it also would've been nice to have some olive oil but overall it was a great experience and I would love to do it again. |
